A Taste of Honey by Shelagh Delaney Book Resume:

It's chaotic - a bit of love, a bit of lust and there you are. We don't ask for life, we have it thrust upon us. Written by Shelagh Delaney when she was nineteen, A Taste of Honey is one of the great defining and taboo-breaking plays of the 1950s. When her mother, Helen, runs of with a car salesman, feisty teenager Jo takes up with a black sailor who promises to marry her before he heads for the seas, leaving her pregnant and alone. Art student Geoff moves in and assumes the role of surrogate parent until misguidedly, he sends for Helen and their unconventional setup unravels. A Taste of Honey offers an explosive celebration of the vulnerabilities and strengths of the female spirit in a deprived and restless world. Bursting with energy and daring, this exhilarating and angry depiction of harsh, working-class life in post-war Salford is shot through with love and humour, and infused with jazz. Taste of Honey by Marie Simmons Book Resume:

“Holy honey! Taste of Honey, with its lush photos and delectable recipes, not only teaches how to best use single-origin honey in the kitchen, it reminds us that honey is an almost magical substance, connecting us to our landscape, and to the hardworking honey bee. Marie Simmons’s book has made robbing the hive even sweeter.” —Novella Carpenter, author of Farm City “It’s rare to see such an information-rich book presented in such a cheery and beautiful package. We also need to know more about this important, timely—and also timeless— subject. A well-written tome packed with good recipes comes as no surprise, since this is from Marie Simmons, one of the absolute best food writers around. I read this one cover to cover.” —Mollie Katzen, author of Moosewood Cookbook and The Heart of the Plate "I’m a honey collector, too, but unlike Marie, I tend to stick to a drizzle of honey over cheese, toast, or hot cereal and the occasional dessert. There are so many more ideas here for using honey, not only the recipes but the more informal suggestions that follow each chapter—my favorites. And I do hope that the appeal of honey itself with lead us to care more for our struggling bee populations." —Deborah Madison, author of Local Flavors and Vegetable Literacy Honey is a lot like olive oil; how do you know what type to select from the farmers' market or the store shelf? Tastes of Honey by Selina Todd Book Resume:

'Anyone who values what is best in British theatre and film will want to join Selina Todd as she digs deep into the brilliance of Delaney’s work – and her character. It’s a riveting book' DAVID HARE The ground-breaking, firebrand playwright who changed our cultural and social landscape and put working-class lives centre stage. On 27 May 1958, A Taste of Honey opened in a small fringe theatre in London. Written by a nineteen-year-old bus driver’s daughter from Salford, the play would blow Britain open and expose a deeply polarised society. It would also make its young author a star. As Conservative Prime Minister Harold Macmillan was telling people they had ‘never had it so good’, A Taste of Honey illuminated the lives of the millions left to languish in Britain’s slums. Delaney’s strong female characters – teenager Jo and her single mother, Helen – asserted that working-class women wanted more than suburban housewifery. The play provoked a barrage of press and political criticism, but was embraced by those whose lives had now been placed centre stage. This is the story of how a working-class teenager stormed theatreland, and what happened next. Shelagh Delaney’s life and work reveal why women of her generation were provoked to challenge the world they’d grown up in. Exploding old certainties about class, sex and taste, Delaney blazed a new path – redefining what art could be and inspiring a new generation of writers, musicians and artists.

Secondouroboros

Secondouroboros by Richard Kostelanetz Book Resume:

Preface From the beginning of my work in visual poetry fifty years ago, I wanted to create from words alone images so strong that they would stick in viewers' heads long after their eyes turned away from my works. When I first heard the epithet Afterimage as an honorific among visual artists, I recognized it as analogous to the strongest lines in strictly verbal poetry. Now that I've seen others claim the epithet Visual Poetry for words embedded in other kinds of images, I feel more reason to declare and extend my original ambition to make the most powerful afterimages available to me with words alone. Secondouroboros represents a sequel to an earlier collection Ouroboros with different visual forms also published by NYQ Books (2014). Many Shorter Ouroboros, all with less than seven letters, I've put into clear circular cylinders, thus making small Sculptures that must be held and spun in a viewer's hand to be "read." --Richard Kostelanetz, 14 May 2020

A Taste of Honey by Habeeb Akande Book Resume:

A Taste of Honey provides a scholarly exposition on the prominent place that sexuality and erotology enjoyed in traditional Islam. The book is divided into two parts; part one presents a critical examination of sexual ethics and part two consists of a concise treatise on the art of seduction and lovemaking. The central aim of this book argues that Islam is a sexually enlightened religion which teaches that sensuality should not be devoid of spirituality. The book also argues that the loss of sacred sensuality afflicting modern society can be reclaimed by a revival of the classical erotological tradition. Drawing upon the Qur’ān, ĥadīth and traditional erotological literature, the book follows the style and composition of classical Eastern and Afro-Arab love texts such as the Kama Sutra and Jalāl ad-Dīn aś-Śuyūţī’s erotic treatises. A Taste of Honey is a thought-provoking work on a highly sensitive, yet extremely important subject.
