“Crossing the Abyss” is the highest form of spiritual manifestation, a universal law, in which soul slowly ascends, towards highest states of consciousness, Self in relationship to the movements of the “Celestial Kingdom” in which Reality is undeniable. All Abrahamic religions go back to the ultimate experience of Self, “I” in which truth is unified in One. “Behold, thou art one in me, a Son of God; and thus, may all become my sons Amen.” Moses 6:68. This book is an evidence based on facts and real life experiences on what lies ahead, as we may have engaged ourselves in self destructive practices in meeting the challenges of this millennium. It answers the very question about truth, as the highest form of divinity present in every human being and not a hypocritical function of blind faith, practiced by religion. The Common Ground by Shiv Talwar Book Resume:

People today have a fragmented view of the world, seeing its diversity but not the unity that underlies it. This fragmentation, writes Shiv D Talwar, is at the root of ethnic conflict, environmental degradation and other problems. To address it, he proposes a radical new form of education, directed towards unity in diversity. To get there, he draws both on ancient spiritual wisdom — including the Vedas and Upanishads from India, the creation story in the biblical book of Genesis, the ninety-nine names of God in Islam, Jewish mysticism and the writings of Lao Tzu — and modern physical and biological science. Religions are many but their wisdom is one, and that wisdom converges with the findings of science as well. Beyond natural science and social science, there is also a spiritual science, which Dr. Talwar outlines in this book. Through spiritual science, humanity can develop its consciousness of infinite and infinitesimal ultimate reality. A second volume will address spiritual technology: the application of spiritual science to individual health and harmony.

Reproductive Immunology by Satish Kumar Gupta Book Resume:

Reproductive Immunology is a compilation of research articles presented during the VII International Congress of Reproductive Immunology which was held in New Delhi, India on 27-30 October 1998. The articles pertain to the following six major themes: Molecular and Immunological Aspects of Sperm-Egg Interaction Embryonic-Endometrial Cross-Talk Immunobiology of Pregnancy Autoantibodies and Infertility Immunocontraception Mucosal Immunology and Reproductive Tract Infections . The first section deals with our current understanding of various steps involved in fertilization. The functional significance of sperm surface mannosidase and glutathione S-transferases to bind zona pellucida is described. The role of zona pellucida glycoproteins in the binding of sperm, induction of acrosome reactions and avoidance of polyspermy is discussed. In the second section, the role of various cytokines, growth factors and immunomodulatory agents in implantation of embryos is described. In the field of reproductive immunology, one of the major issues is to explore the successful gestation of the histoincompatible fetus in the uterus of an immunologically competent mother. The Proceedings presents the issues of paternal antigens at the feto-maternal interface and shows that Th2-type of immunity is involved in normal successful conception. The role of membrane-bound and soluble HLA-G in protecting the fetus from the lytic activities of maternal uterine and peripheral blood natural killer (NK) cells is also presented. Nature's experiments suggest that antibodies against sperm-specific antigens are responsible for infertility in some women. The possibility that an immunogenetic background contributes to production of sperm-immobilizing antibodies in infertile women is discussed in the section on autoantibodies and infertility. The Proceedings presents the issue of Th1-type cytokines in inducing recurrent spontaneous abortions of unexplained etiology. The roles of β2-glycoprotein 1 (β2-GP1)-dependent anticardiolipin antibody, lupus anticoagulant, antiphospholipids, anti-thyroid antibody and anti-nuclear antibody in miscarriages are also described. The rising global human population, particularly in the developing countries, has driven the need for new and safer methods of contraception. Fertility regulation by vaccines is thus an interesting proposition. The section on contraceptive vaccines discusses the latest advances in this area and describes the current status of vaccines based on βhCG, sperm antigens, zona pellucida glycoproteins, and riboflavin carrier proteins. The issues of mucosal immunity and strategies for enhancing local genital immune responses to combat HIV infection is discussed. The role of inflammatory and related cytokines in chorioamnionitis is described. The contents of this Proceedings describes various facets of reproductive immunology which will help us to design strategies to combat genital infections and miscarriages caused by immunological etiology. Descriptions of the molecular basis of gamete recognition, implantation and survival of the allogenic fetus will help in designing strategies for overcoming infertility and also new contraceptive approaches. The Proceedings will be useful to researchers and clinicians involved in basic or applied research in the disciplines of reproductive biology, reproductive immunology, and obstetrics and gynecology.

Bank of Polampur by Ved Mathur Book Resume:

Kashmiri Lal Chawla joins the Bank of Polampur as a clerk and is posted to different cities and offices, where he confronts bizarre situations and odd characters. Nothing escapes him, neither the idiosyncrasies of the people he meets inside or outside the bank, nor their doings or intents; he presents these to the reader in simple, everyday language, spicing it up with his dry wit. Through these amusing anecdotes that can be enjoyed by readers of all age groups and from all walks of life, Kashmiri Lal exposes the sorry state of affairs in the bank; he diagnoses the shortcomings, contradictions and loopholes in the system and also offers solutions, without becoming preachy. As a satire on the Indian banking industry, this is possibly a first, using tongue-in-cheek humour to expose the corrupt and ineffectual system prevailing in public-sector banks in specific, and government departments at large. The author has an intimate knowledge of Indian banking, so this novel also becomes a record of the changing scenario of the banking sector in the country, over the last forty years.

Gurgaon: From Mythic Village to Millennium City by Veena Talwar Oldenburg Book Resume:

For the aspirational migrant, rich or poor, Gurgaon is the Millennium City, with its sleek malls, sky-scraping condominiums, safe and gracious gated colonies, tenement housing, and life-changing jobs. For corporations, it is the Mecca of opportunity, as countless Fortune 500 companies have flocked to its business towers and parks, at once spacious, elegant and convenient for doing business. For its older residents, a more intriguing fate could not have befallen their small town. For the media it is the city that makes headlines, often for the wrong reasons - brawls in pubs, crimes against women, dubious real estate transactions, mega traffic jams. But Gurgaon's existence began as an obscure hamlet, and it has had several hoary incarnations before it acquired its present density, industry, wealth and civic fabric. It is this tangled tale, more thematic than chronological, that this book tells. Veena Talwar Oldenburg has been witness to Gurgaon's astonishing evolution for over twenty years. This volume is the first ever rigorously researched narrative of the city's making that speaks to readers of modern history, audiences compelled by Gurgaon's bewildering growth and the very people who made it their home - now and for generations to come.

Combatants of Muslim Origin in European Armies in the Twentieth Century by Xavier Bougarel,Raphaëlle Branche,Cloé Drieu Book Resume:

During the two World Wars that marked the 20th century, hundreds of thousands of non-European combatants fought in the ranks of various European armies. The majority of these soldiers were Muslims from North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia, or the Indian Subcontinent. How are these combatants considered in existing historiography? Over the past few decades, research on war has experienced a wide-reaching renewal, with increased emphasis on the social and cultural dimensions of war, and a desire to reconstruct the experience and viewpoint of the combatants themselves. This volume reintroduces the question of religious belonging and practice into the study of Muslim combatants in European armies in the 20th century, focusing on the combatants' viewpoint alongside that of the administrations and military hierarchy.

Art Therapy for Social Justice by Savneet K. Talwar Book Resume:

Art Therapy for Social Justice seeks to open a conversation about the cultural turn in art therapy to explore the critical intersection of social change and social justice. By moving the practice of art therapy beyond standard individualized treatment models, the authors promote scholarship and dialogue that opens boundaries; they envision cross disciplinary approaches with a focus on intersectionality through the lens of black feminism, womanism, antiracism, queer theory, disability studies, and cultural theory. In particular, specific programs are highlighted that re-conceptualize art therapy practice away from a focus on pathology towards "models of caring" based on concepts of self-care, radical caring, hospitality, and restorative practice methodologies. Each chapter takes a unique perspective on the concept of "care" that is invested in wellbeing. The authors push the boundaries of what constitutes art in art therapy, re-conceptualizing notions of care and wellbeing as an ongoing process, emphasizing the importance of self-reflexivity, and reconsidering the power of language and art in trauma narratives.
