The Virtue of Sin by Book Resume:

A compelling novel about speaking out, standing up, and breaking free -- perfect for fans of The Handmaid's Tale and Tara Westover's Educated. Miriam lives in New Jerusalem, a haven in the desert far away from the sins and depravity of the outside world. Within the gates of New Jerusalem, and under the eye of its founder and leader, Daniel, Miriam knows she is safe. Cared for. Even if she's forced, as a girl, to quiet her tongue when she has thoughts she wants to share, Miriam knows that New Jerusalem is a far better life than any alternative. So when God calls for a Matrimony, she's thrilled; she knows that Caleb, the boy she loves, will choose her to be his wife and they can finally start their life together. But when the ceremony goes wrong and Miriam winds up with someone else, she can no longer keep quiet. For the first time, Miriam begins to question not only the rules that Daniel has set in place, but also what it is she believes in, and where she truly belongs. Alongside unexpected allies, Miriam fights to learn--and challenge--the truth behind the only way of life she's ever known, even if it means straying from the path of Righteousness. A compelling debut novel about speaking out, standing up, and breaking free. Praise for The Virtue of Sin: "Shannon Schuren weaves a complex tale of love, faith, and lies in her thought-provoking debut The Virtue of Sin. As important as it is entertaining, this is a must-read for anyone who knows that independent thought trumps fitting in. One of my favorite reads of the year." --Christina Dalcher, bestselling author of VOX "Schuren beautifully captures the breathlessness of both first love, and first rebellion, in this engrossing, timely book. Part page-turning drama, part romance, the novel is above all an exploration of the ways repression can damage the soul--and what it takes to rise above it." --Jennifer Donaldson, critically acclaimed author of Lies You Never Told Me

Richer Than Sin by Meghan March Book Resume:

From New York Times bestselling author Meghan March comes a saga of forbidden love and second chances. They say a Riscoff and a Gable can never live happily ever after. Not with a family feud that is the stuff of legends. I used to believe that—until I caught a glimpse of a woman who took my breath away. I didn’t know or care what her name was. Like any man who sees and knows what he wants, I went after her. I certainly didn’t expect her to be Whitney Gable. We burned like a flash fire until everything went sideways, and she married another man. She hates me now, and she should. I objected on her wedding day. She was out of my reach for years, but now she’s home again—and there’s no ring on her finger. They say a Riscoff and a Gable can never live happily ever after… but I’m not done with Whitney Gable. I’m getting my second chance, and this time I’ll do whatever it takes to prove them all wrong. ___________________________________ "Already at the very top of her game, Meghan March's Richer Than Sin doesn't just raise the bar on romance, it shatters the ceiling." ~T.M. Sin, Redemption and Sacrifice. A Biblical and Patristic Study by Stanislas Lyonnet,Léopold Sabourin Book Resume:

The present study is made up of three parts. The first one, entitled the notion of sin by Stanislas Lyonnet, starts from the observation that redemption is essentially the destruction of sin. For this reason the treatise on redemption in the New Testament is preceded by an inquiry into the notion of sin, as it derives from the Old Testament, especially from the account of Genesis 3. The second part, also from Stanislas Lyonnet, is devoted to the terminology of redemption in the N.T. The third part, by Leopold Sabourin, is about sacrifice and redemption in the history of St. Paul's formula Christ made sin (2 Cor 5,21). The author examines the most representative testimonies of the ancient and Medieval Greek and Latin writers, and exposes his interpretation of 2 Cor 5, 21, in which the notion of sacrifice for sin appears as a key concept in this formulation.

Author: Kate Kirkpatrick
Publisher: Oxford University Press

File Format: Pdf

Sartre on Sin by Kate Kirkpatrick Book Resume:

Sartre on Sin: Between Being and Nothingness argues that Jean-Paul Sartre's early, anti-humanist philosophy is indebted to the Christian doctrine of original sin. On the standard reading, Sartre's most fundamental and attractive idea is freedom: he wished to demonstrate the existence of human freedom, and did so by connecting consciousness with nothingness. Focusing on Being and Nothingness, Kate Kirkpatrick demonstrates that Sartre's concept of nothingness (le néant) has a Christian genealogy which has been overlooked in philosophical and theological discussions of his work. Previous scholars have noted the resemblance between Sartre's and Augustine's ontologies: to name but one shared theme, both thinkers describe the human as the being through which nothingness enters the world. However, there has been no previous in-depth examination of this 'resemblance'. Using historical, exegetical, and conceptual methods, Kirkpatrick demonstrates that Sartre's intellectual formation prior to his discovery of phenomenology included theological elements-especially concerning the compatibility of freedom with sin and grace. After outlining the French Augustinianisms by which Sartre's account of the human as 'between being and nothingness' was informed, Kirkpatrick offers a close reading of Being and Nothingness which shows that the psychological, epistemological, and ethical consequences of Sartre's le néant closely resemble the consequences of its theological predecessor; and that his account of freedom can be read as an anti-theodicy. Sartre on Sin illustrates that Sartre' s insights are valuable resources for contemporary hamartiology.

Sin and Its Remedy in Paul by Nijay K. Gupta,John K. Goodrich Book Resume:

This collection of essays considers what light is shed on Pauline soteriology by giving focused attention to the apostle's language and conception of sin. Sometimes Paul appears to present sin and disobedience as transgression, while at other times sin is personified and treated as an enslaving power. Is there a model or perspective that can account for Paul's conceptual range in his discussion of sin? What does careful study of Paul's letters reveal about the christological and pneumatological remedies to the problem of sin as he conceives of them? These questions are explored with attention to individual Pauline letters towards a richer understanding of his attitude towards sin and its remedy.
