Eleven-year-old Chad Hatcher was only trying to get proof. No one would believe him without it. He'd spotted some men hauling suspicious looking rocks off a reef near his house in the Florida Keys, and he suspected that the shiny bits of metal embedded in the rocks were pieces of treasure from an ancient shipwreck site. It couldn't be a legal dive site; not that close to a protected reef. Coming up with a plan to stop the looters before they destroy the reef is simple . . . finding a way to get past his big sister, Georgene, is not. Then when things suddenly go wrong, Chad, and his sister, must scramble for their lives through the backwaters of Sugarloaf Key--with no one to turn to but each other. Author: Bill Browder
Publisher: Simon and Schuster

Red Notice by Bill Browder Book Resume:

New York Times bestseller THE BOOK THAT EXPLAINS WHY RUSSIANS WANTED TO MEET WITH THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN “Part John Grisham-like thriller, part business and political memoir.” —The New York Times “[Red Notice] does for investing in Russia and the former Soviet Union what Liar’s Poker did for our understanding of Salomon Brothers, Wall Street, and the mortgage-backed securities business in the 1980s. Browder’s business saga meshes well with the story of corruption and murder in Vladimir Putin’s Russia, making Red Notice an early candidate for any list of the year’s best books” (Fortune). This is a story about an accidental activist. Bill Browder started out his adult life as the Wall Street maverick whose instincts led him to Russia just after the breakup of the Soviet Union, where he made his fortune. Along the way he exposed corruption, and when he did, he barely escaped with his life. His Russian lawyer Sergei Magnitsky wasn’t so lucky: he ended up in jail, where he was tortured to death. That changed Browder forever. He saw the murderous heart of the Putin regime and has spent the last half decade on a campaign to expose it. Because of that, he became Putin’s number one enemy, especially after Browder succeeded in having a law passed in the United States—The Magnitsky Act—that punishes a list of Russians implicated in the lawyer’s murder. Putin famously retaliated with a law that bans Americans from adopting Russian orphans. A financial caper, a crime thriller, and a political crusade, Red Notice is the story of one man taking on overpowering odds to change the world, and also the story of how, without intending to, he found meaning in his life.

Peace in the Red Rock Valley by James E. Gilmer Book Resume:

SURVIVAL It's true! There are no great people. There are only great challenges that some ordinary people must rise to meet. Much has been written about those individuals who have risen to meet such challenges. Their stories fascinate us because we love a winner, a survivor, a hero. PEACE IN THE RED ROCK VALLEY is an alcoholic's own gripping yet hilariously heartwarming story of survival. It is a story of the tragedy and heartbreak and of the humor and mirth of an unexpected diversion into, the journey through and finally, recovery from an incessant, merciless, yet subtle and almost fatal addiction to a drug that happens to be called alcohol. It is an entertaining expos of the bizarre workings and ravaging power of the alcoholic mind left unchecked and of the surprising simplicity of recovery from such a demoralized state. It'll have you laughing and then it will invade your heart. Because of the stigma attached, not many of our stories have been told but with today's open-mindedness toward addiction, those of us who have survived it might just also be heroes. There is one thing for certain; our stories are definitely fascinating.

Dream of the Red Chamber by Cao Xueqin Book Resume:

The Dream of the Red Chamber is one of the "Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese Literature." It is renowned for its huge scope, large cast of characters and telling observations on the life and social structures of 18th century China and is considered by many to be the pinnacle of the classical Chinese novel. The "Red Chamber" is an expression used to describe the sheltered area where the daughters of wealthy Chinese families lived. Believed to be based on the author's own life and intended as a memorial to the women that he knew in his youth, The Dream of the Red Chamber is a multilayered story that offers up key insights into Chinese culture. "Henry Bencraft Joly's attention to detail and the faithfulness in his translation of Hong Lou Meng makes this revised edition of The Dream of the Red Chamber an excellent book for the student of modern Chinese." —Edwin H. Lowe, from his introduction "…this partial version certainly deserves a wider readership, as a brave early skirmish on the outer ramparts of this masterpiece. The re-issuing of Joly's work will undoubtedly provide a rich crop of fascinating raw material for the growing community of Translation Studies scholars." —John Minford, from his foreword

The Red Rover

Author: Cooper, James
Publisher: Aegitas
File Size: 572 KB
File Format: Pdf

The Red Rover by Cooper, James Book Resume:

The Writer felt it necessary, on a former occasion, to state, that, in sketching his marine life, he did not deem himself obliged to adhere, very closely, to the chronological order of nautical improvements. It is believed that no very great violation of dates will be found in the following pages. If any keen-eyed critic of the ocean, however, should happen to detect a rope rove through the wrong leading-block, or a term spelt in such a manner as to destroy its true sound, he is admonished of the duty of ascribing the circumstances, in charity, to any thing but ignorance on the part of a brother. It must be remembered that there is an undue proportion of landsmen employed in the mechanical as well as the more spiritual part of book-making; a fact which, in itself, accounts for the numberless imperfections that still embarrass the respective departments of the occupation. In due time, no doubt, a remedy will be found for this crying evil; and then the world may hope to see the several branches of the trade a little better ordered. The true Augustan age of literature can never exist until works shall be as accurate, in their typography, as a "log book," and as sententious, in their matter, as a "watch-bill."
