In fact, they haven’t even spoken since their breakup four years earlier. The happily-ever-after she remembers in vivid detail—right down to the dress she wore to their wedding—is only one example of what her doctors call a false memory: recollections Lucy’s mind made up to fill in the blanks from the coma. Her psychologist explains the condition as honest lying, because while Lucy’s memories are false, they still feel incredibly real. Now she has no idea which memories she can trust—a devastating experience not only for Lucy, but also for her family, friends and especially her devoted boyfriend, Matt, whom Lucy remembers merely as a work colleague. When the life Lucy believes she had slams against the reality she’s been living for the past four years, she must make a difficult choice about which life she wants to lead, and who she really is.

The Good Wife's Guide (Le Ménagier de Paris)

Recipe For A Perfect Wife [Pdf/ePub] eBook

The Good Wife's Guide (Le Ménagier de Paris) by N.A Book Resume:

In the closing years of the fourteenth century, an anonymous French writer compiled a book addressed to a fifteen-year-old bride, narrated in the voice of her husband, a wealthy, aging Parisian. The book was designed to teach this young wife the moral attributes, duties, and conduct befitting a woman of her station in society, in the almost certain event of her widowhood and subsequent remarriage. The work also provides a rich assembly of practical materials for the wife's use and for her household, including treatises on gardening and shopping, tips on choosing servants, directions on the medical care of horses and the training of hawks, plus menus for elaborate feasts, and more than 380 recipes. The Good Wife's Guide is the first complete modern English translation of this important medieval text also known as Le Ménagier de Paris (the Parisian household book), a work long recognized for its unique insights into the domestic life of the bourgeoisie during the later Middle Ages. The Good Wife's Guide, expertly rendered into modern English by Gina L. Greco and Christine M. Rose, is accompanied by an informative critical introduction setting the work in its proper medieval context as a conduct manual. This edition presents the book in its entirety, as it must have existed for its earliest readers. The Guide is now a treasure for the classroom, appealing to anyone studying medieval literature or history or considering the complex lives of medieval women. It illuminates the milieu and composition process of medieval authors and will in turn fascinate cooking or horticulture enthusiasts. The work illustrates how a (perhaps fictional) Parisian householder of the late fourteenth century might well have trained his wife so that her behavior could reflect honorably on him and enhance his reputation.

During the first year of her marriage, Tressa distracts herself from her stay-or-go dilemma by working on her grandmother’s recipes, searching for solace and answers through their preparation. How to Create the Perfect Wife by Wendy Moore Book Resume:

From the No.1 bestselling author of WEDLOCK. The Georgian scandal of one gentleman, two orphans and an experiment to create the ideal wife. This is the story of how Thomas Day, a young man of means, decided he could never marry a woman with brains, spirit or fortune. Instead, he adopted two orphan girls from a Foundling Hospital, and set about educating them to become the meek, docile women he considered marriage material. Unsurprisingly, Day's marriage plans did not run smoothly. Having returned one orphan early on, his girl of choice, Sabrina Sidney, would also fall foul of the experiment. From then on, she led a difficult life, inhabiting a curious half-world - an ex-orphan, and not quite a ward; a governess, and not quite a fiancée. But Sabrina also ended up figuring in the life of scientists and luminaries as disparate as Erasmus Darwin and Joseph Priestley, as well as that pioneering generation of women writers who included Fanny Burney, Maria Edgeworth and Anna Seward. In HOW TO CREATE THE PERFECT WIFE, Wendy Moore has found a story that echoes her concerns about women's historic powerlessness, and captures a moment when ideas of human development and childraising underwent radical change.

The Fourth Marker

Recipe For A Perfect Wife [Pdf/ePub] eBook

The Fourth Marker by L. Gibbons Book Resume:

With a supernatural undercurrent, The Fourth Marker is the story of an elderly man, Gabriel Townsend, whose spirit is being crushed between the metaphoric anvil of his pragmatic views and the falling hammer of his wife's pending death. The story revolves around a family, the Townsends, whose heritage is partly Native American. The United States' Indian Removal Act of 1830, which resulted in the Trail of Tears episode in American history, required all indigenous people, with few exceptions, to leave their tribal lands in the southeast and east, along the eastern seaboard. Some Lenape (Delaware) tribal members on the Delmarva Peninsula as well as other areas in the east, defied the government and remained on their ancestral lands, hiding from authorities in the Great Pocomoke Forest, outlying islands, and swamps on the southern peninsula.A conscious decision to "hide in plain sight" or not, they eventually intermarried and bred with local whites, African-Americans, and mulattoes. Many families whose ties to Delmarva date back a hundred years or more share a heritage with those aboriginal people; however, the prejudice and racial bias of a bygone era caused many to ignore – even deny – their lineage. In the story, while a child on the family farm during the Great Depression, Gabe Townsend rejected legends of his Native American ancestors and ignored miraculous cures of family members. Gabe's half-breed grandfather, Noopah, tried to teach him tribal legends and the old ways, explaining that, after most Indians had been killed or driven from their lands by the Army and settlers, tribal elders returned to their lands in spirit form after their deaths. They dwelled at a sacred hill on the family's land and protected their descendants from early death and white man's diseases.During those years, three family members were cured of life-threatening diseases, but Gabe's mother blindly credited their recoveries to the nascent field of modern medicine. After each recovery, a person of evil character and not of tribal blood disappeared, followed by the mysterious appearance of a wood marker on the sacred tribal hill. Yet, despite those events and Noopah's words, Gabe adhered to his mother's intractable views. Now facing the loss of his wife, he relives his childhood memories, guided by the spirit of his grandfather from beyond – well beyond – the grave. Finally understanding the truth of long ago, he decides to beg the tribal spirits to take his life in exchange for his wife's, aware that a fourth marker would signify his own life – and death. As Gabe's father noted, "some understand only what they see; others see only what they understand." The Fourth Marker highlights this most human of vices against the backdrop of Native American legends with ample helpings of farm life during the Great Depression.

Turtle Island by Dave Henry Book Resume:

Sixteen-year-old Max and 10-year-old Tessa were fully prepared for another horrible summer vacation. While they always hoped to go somewhere fun like Disney World or Universal Studios, they usually went somewhere weird and cheap that their father, former boy bander Don Masters, found in an ad in a truck stop coupon magazine. But this year was different. Where they went couldn't be found on any map or in any truck stop coupon book. They passed through a portal to a place called Turtle Island, an alternate version of America that diverged from our history before the pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock. It was there where they met world famous action movie star Jordie Paine -- star of such films as I Plan to Kill You Now and the sequel, I Plan to Kill You Now, Too, the ninja film, Chuck Butcher: Sword Wielding Jackal, as well as the light-hearted romp, Harry Hinklehoffer and the Giant Dancing Toad of East Nebraska -- who would be their guide in this strange new world. Jordie, they later learned, brought the Masters family to Turtle Island for a very specific reason. Because they look just like the ruthless first family of Turtle Island, the Masters are pawns in a coup to overthrow the dictator. But things don't go as planned and the Masters wind up in the Survival Games, Turtle Island's national pastime/system of justice where criminals competitors, or crimpetitors, compete for their freedom. In this scifi comedy, the stakes are very simple -- if they win, they rule, if they lose, they must suffer the consequences.

Cabbage Soup Diet by Pamela Stevens Book Resume:

Cabbage soup diet is probably one of the best-known diets in the world without any controversy! In fact, I believe that everybody who has ever needed to shed a few or a lot of pounds must have tried it or thought about trying it at some point. But to be honest with you, cabbage soups tastes awful, but again let's face it, if it would really help and if it would be healthy, heck why not? We can make some sacrifices, can't we? Unfortunately, apart from being a fad diet on one hand, it can also be dangerous for your health! Yes, I mean, cabbage soup for fast weight loss is a very, very bad idea and here is why. The truth is that as of today, there isn't an "official" version of this diet and as a matter of fact, it seems like no one wants to step forward and say they invented this diet notwithstanding, you can find various cabbage diet plans based around eating huge amounts of cabbage soup, and very few (or nothing) else. However, the claims made for the cabbage soup diet ranges from the cabbage soup itself has fat burning properties to the "you can lose 10lbs in a week." Besides that, the diet is often described as a quick way to drop pounds for a special event and most proponents will advise that it's only safe to be followed for a week! Anyway, I want to say that by the way, there is some truth in that and I dare say that the way of cooking cabbage soup to make it very effective for weight loss is simply to boil it in water, add a pinch of salt and that's it. The Pioneer Woman Cooks

The Pioneer Woman Cooks by Ree Drummond Book Resume:

My name is Ree. Some folks know me as The Pioneer Woman. After years of living in Los Angeles, I made a pit stop in my hometown in Oklahoma on the way to a new, exciting life in Chicago. It was during my stay at home that I met Marlboro Man, a mysterious cowboy with steely blue eyes and a muscular, work-honed body. A strict vegetarian, I fell hard and fast, and before I knew it we were married and living on his ranch in the middle of nowhere, taking care of animals, and managing a brood of four young children. I had no idea how I'd wound up there, but I knew it was exactly where I belonged. The Pioneer Woman Cooks is a homespun collection of photography, rural stories, and scrumptious recipes that have defined my experience in the country. I share many of the delicious cowboy-tested recipes I've learned to make during my years as an accidental ranch wife—including Rib-Eye Steak with Whiskey Cream Sauce, Lasagna, Fried Chicken, Patsy's Blackberry Cobbler, and Cinnamon Rolls—not to mention several "cowgirl-friendly" dishes, such as Sherried Tomato Soup, Olive Cheese Bread, and CrÈme BrÛlÉe. I show my recipes in full color, step-by-step detail, so it's as easy as pie to follow along. You'll also find colorful images of rural life: cows, horses, country kids, and plenty of chaps-wearing cowboys. I hope you get a kick out of this book of mine. I hope it makes you smile. I hope the recipes bring you recognition, accolades, and marriage proposals. And I hope it encourages even the most harried urban cook to slow down, relish the joys of family, nature, and great food, and enjoy life.

A Woman in Time Transit

A Woman in Time Transit by Yawer Qazalbash Book Resume:

Do you believe in re-births? If not, read--A Woman In Time Transit--where the same spirit of a woman is born time and again in different time and geographical zones of human history. These births had taken place among different societies. Thus the book comprises of three separate stories, each having different characters, cultures and circumstances; hence a 'trilogy'. The first birth had taken place in antiquity, when humans lived in individual groups. They were food gatherers and hunters but their lingual apparatuses were not developed, therefore there was no language. The reader would find the answer to the question; how women used to head such groups, where only brute force ruled. People could hardly pronounce 'Shuh', as they called their leader. In the second birth, the heroine was born in household of an Egyptian priest and was named Nekhebi, and whose forefathers were the initiators of moralistic laws, and she was fully trained in every discipline of priesthood by her father. Despite that, only one instance changed her all perceptions of faith. She seduces a male of her own tribe in the first instance and from there her libido drives, controlled by her Physis did not let her stop from indulging in every act there was to indulge. Nekhebi, in her mastery of manipulations forged a plan which was later on used by Pharaohs to claim themselves as spiritual leaders. In the third birth the lax spirit was born in the City State of Sparta, and continued in the similar promiscuous manner as that of her two counter-parts. In each episode characters have been developed, who would be found antithesis to the debauch spirit and those contradiction and conflicts would be enjoyable to read.

Is the answer to their problems to be found within the world of science-fiction or are they setting themselves up for yet more grief and sadness? The Missing Years of Thomas Pritchard August 3rd. 6:03am. The tranquil summer's morning was shattered by the desperate screams of Thomas' mother echoing down the near deserted suburban street. The few people milling about outside getting ready for their daily business had said they couldn't make out what the cries were about when they were interviewed. Not initially. Not until Anne, a pretty woman in her early thirties with shoulder length blonde hair, spilled out onto the street wearing nothing more than her dressing gown and slippers anxiously calling out for her five year old son, Thomas, to come out from wherever he was hiding. Eye witnesses reported Anne was closely followed by her husband Bill - a professional, clean-shaven man in his late thirties with dark, short hair - half dressed for work in his suit trousers and unbuttoned white shirt, and that he too looked just as frantic as the mother did. The year was 2003; the year Thomas disappeared from his home without a trace. * * * * * August 3rd. 6:03am. A young, fragile looking hand knocked confidently on the white PVC of the front door to number twenty-two. The hand belonged to a smartly dressed, skinny fourteen year old, fresh-faced boy. Whilst waiting for an answer to his knocking he slid a brown leather satchel off his shoulder down onto the floor as though the weight was too much for him to bear any more. He went to knock again but stopped himself when he heard the sound of footsteps from the other side of the door as the freshly woken homeowner came to answer his initial knocking. There was the slightest of pauses as keys were twisted in locks before the door opened as much as the strong, gold, security chain would permit it to. "Can I help you?" asked the homeowner, a frail looking woman in her late sixties. "Where's my mum?" asked the boy. The year was 2012; the year Thomas came home.

A Spark of Light

A Spark of Light by Jodi Picoult Book Resume:

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The author of Small Great Things returns with a powerful and provocative new novel about ordinary lives that intersect during a heart-stopping crisis. “Picoult at her fearless best . . . Timely, balanced and certain to inspire debate.”—The Washington Post The warm fall day starts like any other at the Center—a women’s reproductive health services clinic—its staff offering care to anyone who passes through its doors. Then, in late morning, a desperate and distraught gunman bursts in and opens fire, taking all inside hostage. After rushing to the scene, Hugh McElroy, a police hostage negotiator, sets up a perimeter and begins making a plan to communicate with the gunman. As his phone vibrates with incoming text messages he glances at it and, to his horror, finds out that his fifteen-year-old daughter, Wren, is inside the clinic. But Wren is not alone. She will share the next and tensest few hours of her young life with a cast of unforgettable characters: A nurse who calms her own panic in order to save the life of a wounded woman. A doctor who does his work not in spite of his faith but because of it, and who will find that faith tested as never before. A pro-life protester, disguised as a patient, who now stands in the crosshairs of the same rage she herself has felt. A young woman who has come to terminate her pregnancy. And the disturbed individual himself, vowing to be heard. Told in a daring and enthralling narrative structure that counts backward through the hours of the standoff, this is a story that traces its way back to what brought each of these very different individuals to the same place on this fateful day. One of the most fearless writers of our time, Jodi Picoult tackles a complicated issue in this gripping and nuanced novel. How do we balance the rights of pregnant women with the rights of the unborn they carry? What does it mean to be a good parent? A Spark of Light will inspire debate, conversation . . . and, hopefully, understanding. Praise for A Spark of Light “This is Jodi Picoult at her best: tackling an emotional hot-button issue and putting a human face on it.”—People “Told backward and hour by hour, Jodi Picoult’s compelling narrative deftly explores controversial social issues.”—Us Weekly
