HAZE by Dr. Y. V. Ratna Book Resume:

Haze is a set of more than 150+ quoems presenting the author’s self-expression and experience which are scribbled in a routine leisurely fashion, perceiving the illusionary reality of life in between ether and sky, embedded with the glitters of Cosmos. The subconscious mind of a human brain is filled with the imprints of ambiguous societal setups. The author through simple diction relates the life of homo sapiens in a society who are entangled with an irrational lifestyle believing it to be a rational comfortable style throwing themselves and all others into a meaningless confusing factor. It is observed to be curbing and nipping the grooming nurtures of every individual before they bud and spread their essence into their desired directions. Most of the stereotypes in a society lead to discrimination by categorizing every bit on the planet into an open vague of sin and sane with the insane delicacies in the neighborhood. Most of these lifestyles are dealt with within the quotes by no emphasis on generalization, personalization or simplification. Haze has emerged through that blurred visionary aspect which the author brings out into the form of a book by a few well-wishing reviewers’ suggestions. Haze is a phase of life’s face.

Sharpening the Haze by Giulia Carabelli,Miloš Jovanović,Annika Kirbis,Jeremy F. Walton Book Resume:

This volume presents ten visual essays that reflect on the historical, cultural and socio-political legacies of empires. Drawing on a variety of visual genres and forms, including photographs, illustrated advertisements, stills from site-specific art performances and films, and maps, the book illuminates the contours of empire’s social worlds and its political legacies through the visual essay. The guiding, titular metaphor, sharpening the haze, captures our commitment to frame empire from different vantage points, seeking focus within its plural modes of power. We contend that critical scholarship on empires would benefit from more creative attempts to reveal and confront empire. Broadly, the essays track a course from interrogations of imperial pasts to subversive reinscriptions of imperial images in the present, even as both projects inform each author’s intervention.

Indonesia's Fires and Haze

Indonesia's Fires and Haze by David Glover,Timothy Jessup Book Resume:

In the middle of 1997, forest fires burning in Indonesia began to spread thick clouds of smoke and haze to neighbouring countries. By the time the fires were finally out in 1998, some 8 million hectares of land had burned while millions of people suffered the effects of air pollution. The fires — deliberately set for the most part, and exacerbated by the drought conditions of El Niño — were one of the century’s worst environmental disasters. This book assesses the damage caused by the fires and haze and puts them in terms that are readily understandable: dollars and cents. Written while the fires of 1998 were still raging, it looks at the damages suffered by Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore during the first outbreak of fires, in 1997. The study’s summary findings were widely quoted and played an important role in policy discussions in the region. This book presents in full detail the methods used to obtain those estimates and elaborates on the policy recommendations tabled in 1998.

This is a self-help book for managers, supervisors and administrators who see themselves as skippers at the helm of an organization in times of turbulence, uncertainty and complexity. It provides a number of the latest handy management models, such as the Three-Phase Model, Governance Model and Management Matrix, which help leaders and managers arrive at well thought-out risk management decisions. In addition, the practical cases and discussion questions in each chapter help readers implement these models in their organizations. The book is an English translation of the Dutch book ‘Varen in de mist’, which was nominated for the Dutch Management Book of the Year.

An aging mobster finds trouble in a nursing home in the latest caper from an Edgar Award–winning author. Back in the day, Little Mo Connor was a hired gun for Slick Dickey Scalini, taking down opponents without discretion, always with the same signature kill: three shots to the head, one shot to the heart. Now he’s living out his last days hidden away in an anonymous facility, surrounded by other seniors. Haunted by his past, his dementia comes as something of a blessing . . . though he can’t always remember what it is he wants to forget—he’s always mixing up the memories from his own life with those from books he’s read and movies he’s seen. A lover of crime novels from the pulp paperback era, Little Mo relishes lurid tales—the more violent the better. Take, for example, his most recent acquisition: a novel in which he and his trusty .38 snubnose are the stars. It tells the story of a former hit man in love with Varla, a geriatric serial killer who convinces him that murdering his grown daughter is the only way to escape the captivity of their nursing home. But as the plot of the novel begins to play out in Little Mo’s waking life, he must struggle to separate fact from fiction before they meet in a deadly conclusion. Hailed a “master of suspense” by the New York Times Book Review, author of the Thorn Mysteries James W. Hall now presents one of the most unusual and enthralling novellas in the Bibliomystery series. The Haze is a treat for book lovers and mystery buffs alike. The Bibliomysteries are a series of short tales about deadly books, by top mystery authors.

How did it all begin, and what’s in store for humans today, in the near future, and in the distant future? The Effect Evaluation of Haze Governance Policies in Hebei Province–Based on I-O Model

Author: Guofeng Zhang,Xiaojing Ma,Huimin Li
Publisher: Springer Nature
File Size: 302 KB
File Format: Pdf
Read Count: 4795241

The Effect Evaluation of Haze Governance Policies in Hebei Province–Based on I-O Model by Guofeng Zhang,Xiaojing Ma,Huimin Li Book Resume:

This book provides a dynamic simulation model based on input-output table. The model includes an objective function, i.e. maximizing economic and social development and three sub-models, including economic growth model, pollutant emission model and energy balance model. The data of 2012 is selected as the base period data. The haze control policy of Hebei Province is written into the model as an exogenous variable. Reducing the total PM2.5 emissions is an environmental constraint, which is used to eliminate the impact of natural factors on environmental quality. Lingo software is used to simulate this model. By comparing the socio-economic impacts in different scenarios, this book found the most effective policy combination of haze governance. Comprehensive haze governance policy recommendations provide experience for other regions of China and other developing countries. In this book, the dynamic simulation model of haze governance also provides a reference to other environmental policy simulations. This book is divided into five parts. The first part is an introduction. This paper mainly introduces the research background, research status at home and abroad, the purpose and significance of the study, the content and methods of the study, the key scientific problems to be solved and the expected results. In the second part, the current situation and existing problems of economic, social, energy and environment development in the study area are analyzed in detail. In the third part, a comprehensive evaluation model of dynamic optimization of haze control policy is constructed. The fourth part carries on the simulation experiment, and carries on the analysis to the experimental result. The fifth part puts forward the policy suggestions to realize the economic, social, energy and environmental development of Hebei Province. In this book, we have some understandings about haze governance. From the perspective of policy effect, the policy effects of subsidy for soil and water conservation, subsidy for development and utilization of clean energy, subsidy for new energy vehicles, motor vehicle restriction and subsidy for introduction of PM2.5 treatment technology are decreasing. Comprehensive policy can better achieve the goal of sustainable development of economy, energy and environment than single policy, and the effect of "source governance" policy is better than that of "end governance" policy.

The Haze Problem in Southeast Asia by Helena Varkkey Book Resume:

Despite the efforts of Southeast Asian governments and of ASEAN, transboundary haze continues to be a major environmental problem in Southeast Asia. This book demonstrates that the issue is complex, and explains why efforts to solve the problem in purely political terms are ineffective, and likely to continue to be ineffective. The book shows how state-led, state-incentivised agribusiness development lies at the heart of the problem, leading to a large rise in palm oil production, with extensive clearing of forests, leading to deliberate or accidental fires and the resulting haze. Moreover, although the forest clearing is occurring in Indonesia, many of the companies involved are Malaysian and Singaporean; and, further, many of these companies have close relationships with the politicians and officials responsible for addressing the problem and who thereby have a conflict of interest. The author concludes by discussing the huge difficulties involved in overturning this system of 'patronage politics'.

He looks into the CIA and its use of LSD as a mind control drug; at one point every CIA officer had to take the drug and endure mind control tests and interrogations to see if the drug worked as a “truth serum.” He looks into other truth serum drugs at the disposal of intelligence agencies such as scapolamine and asks: “Why waterboarding?” He looks at Big Pharma’s war on psychedelics and the healing powers that these drugs have. It’s a tour de force in search of the liquid conspiracy that still trickles down the alleyways. This is your government on drugs. Chapters include: The Pioneers of Psychedelia; The MI6, MDMA and LSD; Taking it to the Streets: LSD becomes Acid; Great Works of Art Inspired and Influenced by Acid; Scapolamine: The CIA’s Ultimate Truth Serum; Mind Control, the Death of Music and the Meltdown of the Masses; Big Pharma’s War on Psychedelics; The Healing Powers of Psychedelic Medicine; tons more.

Matthew and the Horrid Haze by Angeline Khoo; How San Khoo Book Resume:

Matthew, like other young children, loves to play outdoors. But when the region’s annual haze—pollutive smog at its worst—comes around, Matthew is forced to stay indoors. Ever curious, he asks, “Why can’t I see the sky?” In this delightful children’s story, Wind blames the burning Trees in the forests. Trees, in turn, blame the tinderbox-like Peat soil, which in turn points the finger at Man, who says he needs fertile soil to grow his crops. Finally, Matthew asks, “How can we get back clearer days?” The included suggested questions enable adults to use the storyline to help children find out more and to appreciate the urgency of sustaining this precious Earth. One reviewer says (Ms Felicia Choon, a primary school teacher), “I wished that the children who read this book can be empowered with the knowledge that they make a difference in their own small ways. If I were to read this book in class, it would definitely pathed its way into a lengthy discussion on what we can do here to help with the situation there.” This is the third book in the Matthew series. The other two, also published by Partridge, are “Matthew and the Thirsty Sun” and “Matthew’s Stacking Cups.”

Black Haze, Second Edition by Ricky L. Jones Book Resume:

Expanded and revised edition of the first book devoted solely to black fraternity hazing. Are black men naturally violent? Do they define manhood in the same way as their counterparts across lines of race? Are black Greek-letter fraternities among the most dangerous student organizations on American college and university campuses? Can their often-dangerous initiation processes be stopped or even modified and, if not, what should be done about them? In this second edition of Black Haze, Ricky L. Jones takes on these questions and more. The first edition was an enlightening and sometimes disturbing examination of American men’s quest for acceptance, comfort, reaffirmation, and manhood in a world where their footing is often unstable. In this new edition Jones not only provides masterful philosophical and ethical analyses but he also forces the engagement of a terrifying real world process that damages and kills students with all too frequent regularity. With a revealing new preface and stunning afterword, Jones immerses the reader in an intriguing and dark world marked by hypermasculinity, unapologetic brutality, and sometimes death. He offers a compelling book that ranges well beyond the subject of hazing—one that yields perplexing questions and demands difficult choices as we move forward in addressing issues surrounding fraternities, violent hazing, black men, and American society. “Black Haze is a landmark study on hazing culture within black Greek-letter organizations. With an insider’s eye and scholar’s touch, Jones masterfully captures the emic contours, complexities, and contradictions of black fraternity hazing as ritual act and cultural practice. This text is at once rigorous and accessible, theoretical and practical, classic and urgent. Anyone interested in understanding hazing, masculinity, BGLOs, or black cultural practice must read this book!” — Marc Lamont Hill, coauthor of The Classroom and the Cell: Conversations on Black Life in America “Black Haze is a compelling survey of black Greek-letter organizations, their history, purpose, and their most damning traditions. This is an examination of how the virtues of brotherhood and civic service coexist with brutal violence and cruelty within some of the oldest organizations in black America. Professor Jones has produced a vital contribution about a crucial and enduring problem.” — William Jelani Cobb, author of The Substance of Hope: Barack Obama and the Paradox of Progress “Ricky Jones’s Black Haze is an important study of black male identity development. By examining black men’s relationship with fraternities, he uncovers larger and brilliantly penetrating insights into issues of masculinity and political identity among African American males in the post-civil rights era.” — Peniel E. Joseph, author of Waiting ’Til the Midnight Hour: A Narrative History of Black Power in America “Black Haze is a riveting coup de grâce against ritualized violence in black fraternities. The second edition of Black Haze is the most penetrating, illuminating, and articulate sociopolitical and cultural analysis of the chilling legacy of violence in black Greek-letter fraternities. As one of the world’s leading authorities on black masculinity and organizations, Ricky Jones intelligently confronts traditional verities, social norms, and myths that seek to justify and continue ritualized violence in black fraternities through the courageous prism of a reformed insider dedicated to the preservation of black dignity and life.” — Jeremy I. Levitt, author of Black Women and International Law: Deliberate Interactions, Movements and Actions Praise for the First Edition “…provides valuable insights into the reasoning behind hazing, a practice that extends into the realms of sports and even high school, and is relevant for not only fraternity members and officials, but the general public as well.” — The Griot “…an important contribution … because of the skillful manner in which Jones incorporates and critically analyzes relevant literature and other related scholarly writings … Jones, himself a member of Kappa Alpha Psi, offers personal observations as well as first-hand views and perceptions of hazing.” — Journal of College Student Development
