Curiosities of Natural History, In by Francis T. Buckland Book Resume:
A pioneer in the strange art and ambiguous science of zo phagy-that is, of studying animals by eating them-British natural historian FRANCIS TREVELYAN BUCKLAND (1826-1880) was a wildly popular speaker and writer of the Victorian era. In his classic four-volume Curiosities of Natural History, published between 1857 and 1872, he shared his love of creatures exotic and mysterious with readers who devoured his charming and erudite essays much in the same way he devoured his animal subjects. "If there is one person that I would have expected to have captured a sea serpent in the 19th century for the sole purpose of eating it, it would be Frank Buckland," writes cryptozoologist Loren Coleman in his new introduction to Buckland's series. One of the founding grandfathers of cryptozoology, the discipline that investigates animal mysteries, Buckland was not "a wild-eyed 'true believer' in anything strange," insists Coleman, but brought, instead, "a skeptical, open-minded approach" to his work. Indeed, here, in the "fourth series" of Curiosities of Natural History, Buckland's erudition is clear in his animated discussions of, among many other things, measuring a French giant, the "woolly woman of Hayti," performing fleas, six thousand parakeets, the intemperance of salmon, and fossil pork. This new edition, a replica of the 1888 "Popular Edition," is part of Cosimo's Loren Coleman Presents series. LOREN COLEMAN is author of numerous books of cryptozoology, including Bigfoot!: The True Story of Apes in America and Mothman and Other Curious Encounters.

Death, Taxes, and Leaky Waders by John Gierach Book Resume:
Brilliant, witty, perceptive essays about fly-fishing, the natural world, and life in general by the acknowledged master of fishing writers. Death, Taxes, and Leaky Waders collects forty of John Gierach’s finest essays on fishing from six of his books. Like all his writing, these essays are seasoned by a keen sense of observation and a deep knowledge and love of fishing lore, leavened by a wonderfully wry sense of humor. Gierach often begins with an observation that soon leads to something below the surface, which he finds and successfully lands. As Gierach says, writing is a lot like fishing. This is the first anthology of John Gierach’s work, a collection that is sure to delight both die-hard fans and new readers alike. To enter Gierach’s world is to experience the daily wonder, challenge, and occasional absurdity of the fishing life—from such rituals as the preparation of camp coffee (for best results, serve in a tin cup) to the random, revelatory surprises, such as the flashing beauty of a grayling leaping out of the water. Whether he’s catching fish or musing on the ones that got away, Gierach is always entertaining and enlightening, writing with his own inimitable blend of grace and style, passion and wit.
The Economics of Salmon Aquaculture by Frank Asche,Trond Bjorndal Book Resume:
First published in 1990, The Economics of Salmon Aquaculture was the first book to systematically analyse the salmon aquaculture industry, from both a market and production perspective. Since publication of the first edition of this book, the salmon aquaculture industry has grown at a phenomenal rate, with salmon now being consumed in more than 100 countries worldwide. This second edition of a very popular and successful book brings the reader right up to date with all the major current issues pertaining to salmon aquaculture. Commencing with an overview of the production process in aquaculture, the following chapters provide in-depth coverage of the sources of the world’s supply of salmon, the growth in productivity, technological changes, environmental issues, markets, market structure and competitiveness, lessons that can be learnt from the culture of other species, optimal harvesting techniques, production planning, and investment in salmon farms. Written by Frank Ashe and Trond Bjørndal, two of the world's leading experts in the economics of aquaculture, this second edition of The Economics of Salmon Aquaculture provides the salmon aquaculture industry with an essential reference work, including a wealth of commercially important information. This book is also a valuable resource for upper level students and professionals in aquaculture and economics, and libraries in all universities and research establishments where these subjects are studied and taught should have copies of this important book on their shelves.
Nostradamus in an Age of Mass Construction by Clois Roberts Book Resume:
A prayerful declaration from Michele De Nostredame: "When the time arrives- for the removal of ignorance, the accuracy of my earlier predictions will be sufficiently established, so that those of good intelligence will recognize that my work is a correspondence with truth; and at that time will be, the greater benefit of all my work." Excerpt from a letter to King Henri II of France, concerning his books of prophecy. (Salon, France 1558) Those who share a continuing interest in the spiritual side of human ability and look from an angle that promises a better world will find pieces of hope in the predictability and insight offered in the selected poetry of Nostradamus. Observations of scheduled elements belonging to an ancient sequence of events, resurfacing as if in accordance with a previously resolved tradition, generated a flood of queries from friends, particularly after the events in New York on 9-11. Years of research concerned with the history of human abilities, prophecy, and personal experience with the best of contributors to our civilization provided the author with an understanding of the journey along the road to truth. A decidedly reliable guide, Nostradamus in an Age of Mass Construction refers directly to the ancient datum, "Yes, those who want to know, shall."
The Facilitator Era by Tom Steffen Book Resume:
Some time ago, Ralph Winter brilliantly identified three eras of modern missions: Era 1: William Carey focused on the coastlands; Era 2: Hudson Taylor focused on the inlands; Era 3: Donald McGavran and Cameron Townsend focused on unreached peoples. With all the fast and furious changes swirling around us today in twenty-first century missions, have we entered a Fourth Era? If so, who are the people primarily involved? How are they selected? How are they trained? How long do they serve? Has the Third Era ministry focus--reaching the unreached--changed? If so, to what? Are there any successful case studies out there? Have McGavran and Townsend passed the baton to a new leader(s)? If so, to whom? This book seeks to answer these and related questions. Contributors include: Dr. Ben Beckner Dr. Monroe Brewer Dr. Don Finley Mike Griffis Dr. Gary Hipp, MD Jerry Hogshead Kaikou Maisu Judy Manna Kenn Oke Dr. A. Philosophical Papers and Letters by G.W. Leibniz Book Resume:
The selections contained in these volumes from the papers and letters of Leibniz are intended to serve the student in two ways: first, by providing a more adequate and balanced conception of the full range and penetration of Leibniz's creative intellectual powers; second, by inviting a fresher approach to his intellectual growth and a clearer perception of the internal strains in his thinking, through a chronological arrangement. Much confusion has arisen in the past through a neglect of the develop ment of Leibniz's ideas, and Couturat's impressive plea, in his edition of the Opuscu/es et fragments (p. xii), for such an arrangement is valid even for incomplete editions. The beginning student will do well, however, to read the maturer writings of Parts II, III, and IV first, leaving Part I, from a period too largely neglected by Leibniz criticism, for a later study of the still obscure sources and motives of his thought. The Introduction aims primarily to provide cultural orientation and an exposition of the structure and the underlying assumptions of the philosophical system rather than a critical evaluation. I hope that together with the notes and the Index, it will provide those aids to the understanding which the originality of Leibniz's scientific, ethical, and metaphysical efforts deserve.
Physiology of Fish in Intensive Culture Systems by Gary Wedemeyer Book Resume:
Fish culture in hatcheries and other aquacultural facilities is becoming much more intensive all over the world. The success of all kinds of fish rearing depends on the quality of management and this depends, in turn, on understanding the biology of fishes and the aquatic environment in which they live. This book directly addresses the relationship between the aquatic environment and the fishes. An understanding of this by the reader will result in a reduction of disease outbreaks through improved management.
Hawaii Place Names by John R. K. Clark Book Resume:
In his latest book, John Clark, author of the highly regarded "Beaches of Hawaii" series, gives us the many captivating stories behind the hundreds of Hawaii place names associated with the ocean--the names of shores, beaches, and other sites where people fish, swim, dive, surf, and paddle. Significant features and landmarks on or near shores, such as fishponds, monuments, shrines, reefs, and small islands, are also included. The names of surfing sites are the most numerous and among the most colorful: from the purely descriptive (Black Rock, Blue Hole) to the humorous (No Can Tell, Pray for Sex). Clark began gathering information for the "Beaches" series in 1972, and during the years that followed interviewed hundreds of informants, many of them native Hawaiians, and consulted dozens of Hawaiian reference books, newspapers, and maps. A significant amount of the oral history he collected was unrecorded and remained only in his notebooks and memory. Hawaii Place Names: Shores, Beaches, and Surf Sites is the final result of those years of research, and like its popular predecessors, it benefits substantially from Clark's having spent a lifetime surfing and swimming Hawaii's beaches. Presented in the same convenient format as Pukui, Elbert, and Mookini's Place Names of Hawaii (UH Press, 1974) this rich compendium of information on Hawaii's surf, shore, and beach sites will satisfy visitors and residents alike.

Murder is in the Details by Corlyss Morrel Disbrow Book Resume:
Red Fear was inspired by an actual event that happened when she was four years old. A rabid dog was spotted walking down the street in front of her home. Her mother, Jane, kept calling this mad dog back from where their own pet dog was penned. The last time that Jane called the rabid dog away, it ran under their house where it was shot by her father, Peyton Morrel. Ta, Ta, Tootsie, Bo-Bo, is quite loosely based on her friendship with her late business partner. His mother had pet-named him Tootsie Bo-Bo. The conflict in her relationship with Tootsie led to this short story. Perhaps we all feel some animosity in relationships. These feelings often develop over time. In the case of Goodbye to the Wheelman, she usurped some incidents from a close friend’s marriage, which had ended. Disbrow has a long memory for stories, and she embroiders them to fit the story.
Sandy Parr at the 19Th Hole by Mohamed Noorani Book Resume:
When Mohamed Noorani writes, he uses the nom de plume of Sandy Parr. Sandy Parr writes mostly on golf. He loves golf, but he is not the typical, ardent, or fanatic golfer who habitually watches the World Golf Ranking. Instead, Sandy spends his time writhing and agonising just to understand why the incorrigible weekend golfers (including him) find it so hard to shave off their handicap. He never pretends that he has the answer, or is even near to it. Nonetheless, he knows from observation that the touring pros are way ahead of the weekend golf nuts, simply because of their prowess in reaching the greens in regulation, their superiority in the delicate chipping and pitching shots, and their confidence in putting. In other words, the pros are superior in everything. This book is a compilation of what Sandy Parr had noted about golf as seen from the eyes of a weekend golfer. Sandy would advise that the easiest shots to shave off your score are found in the short game. Chipping, pitching, and putting dont require tremendous swing speed or physical ability. Plus, they can be practiced in your backyard or living room. Having a reliable tee shot that land in the fairway is important as well. Finding the short grass off the tee is much more important than distance, especially for high handicappers.

Dragon Don of New York by Jonathan Saville Book Resume:
A father with a secret, a daughter with a plan, and one ordinary guy in the middle of it. Excerpt: Then his world exploded into action. The van's side doors flew open and two men armed with shotguns spilled out onto the sidewalk. Two more immediately followed and began running at Thomas. If he hadn't just been thinking of Vicki's challenges on her previous visit Thomas likely would have reacted much differently, but, as it was, he immediately went into adrenalin overload. He grabbed the gun of the lead runner and gave him a hip check that former Maple Leaf's defenseman Tim Horton would have admired. Then, never having fired a shotgun in his life, he managed to pump a round into the fallen man's chest, and swiveling to face to second runner, he pretty much blew his head off. The two gun men that had stayed by the van recovered from their initial shock and fired at Thomas. Ducking behind the pillar, Thomas watched shards of granite fly off his cover. He swung the gun around the other side and fired twice towards the van. Quiet. Thomas peeked out from behind the column and was shocked to see both the other assailants down on the sidewalk. The revving of the van's engine brought him sharply back to the problem at hand. He pointed (not really aimed) the gun at where he thought the gas tank would be and pumped two rounds in that general direction. His reward was a tremendous explosion and a showering of flaming van parts. Thomas all of a sudden felt exposed out on the sidewalk. He turned to head back down under the perceived safety of the covered portico and he saw her. She was tall, dark haired, a European looking beauty. She was standing by a table several back from the rail with a hand held to her mouth. Thomas didn't know how he knew, but at that moment he understood that this stunning woman was the real target of the attack. As he headed into the tunnel that led into the hotel, he saw her gather her things and enter the restaurant.
