The Heart of God by Jung Ae Lee Book Resume:

I have forgotten myself for many days while I was hearing the words of God, writing them, and editing them in the touch of the Holy Spirit since the day I began to experience the presence of God. When I was touched by the Holy Spirit, my body and mind were not mine, but these became instruments of God. I was I, but I was not I; I was I, but I could not move as I wish. Sometimes the quick voice of God came down and I wrote it. Sometimes the voice turned into sentences so that I was amazed to see them come into my mind and I wrote them down. These articles were not written one by one. When the Lord gave dozens of titles at a time, He also gave articles according to them. So I wrote down them. Sometimes I wrote articles without titles, and after writing He gave the titles. When I continue to write randomly, the former and the latter are often matched. Whatever message I received and wrote, I did not do anything for it. I wrote them only as an instrument of the Lord. And sometimes I entered into the hearts of the people the Holy Spirit has opened and I heard and wrote what their inner voices. There are also some articles that are based on what I heard from the conversations of others. In the mysterious and incredible world of God and the ministry of the Holy Spirit, I fell down before Him for twenty-six months in order to write these articles. The number of titles I received from Him was over one thousand and two hundred, and the number of articles I received was over nine hundred. When I received my first article, I prayed and God forcefully gave it to me. However, at this time I just pray in front of the keyboard in order to receive messages. I hope these messages from the Lord will reveal the greatness of the Lord and thereby I and all people glorify the Lord. I hope that the leaders and people who have broken God’s heart will turn to the right attitude because of these messages of the Lord, and those who have made the Lord’s heart sad will be the ones who please Him. Finally, at the end of each message of the Lord is provided the date or year of writing.

Azoth - Or, The Star in the East by Arthur Edward Waite Book Resume:

“Azoth - Or The Star in the East” is a 1893 work by A. E. Waite. Arthur Edward Waite (1857 – 1942), more commonly referred to as A. E. Waite, was an American-born British mystic and poet. He wrote profusely on the subject of the occult and esoteric matters, and is famous for being the co-creator of the Rider-Waite Tarot deck. His work arguably constitutes the first attempt to systematically studying the history of western occultism, which he viewed more of a spiritual tradition than proto-science or pseudo-religion, as was the more common conception. Contents include: “The Agnostic Standpoint as the Threshold of Mysticism”, “Intellectual Difficulties of a Certain Class of Thinkers”. “Connection between Religion and Morality”, “Certain Consolation to be Derived from the Mysteries of Life”, “Philosophical Basis of this Statement”, “Appeal of Material Philosophy”, “Ultimately Worthless Nature of this Life Except as a Preparation for the Higher Life”, etc. Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. It is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now in a modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially-commissioned new biography of the author.

The Preacher King

The Preacher King [Pdf/ePub] eBook ISBN-10:
Author: Richard Lischer
Publisher: Oxford University Press
File Size: 1312 KB
File Format: Pdf
Read Count: 2917144

The Preacher King by Richard Lischer Book Resume:

The Preacher King investigates Martin Luther King Jr.'s religious development from a precocious "preacher's kid" in segregated Atlanta to the most influential America preacher and orator of the twentieth century. To give the most accurate and intimate portrait possible, Richard Lischer draws almost exclusively on King's unpublished sermons and speeches, as well as tape recordings, personal interviews, and even police surveillance reports. By returning to the raw sources, Lischer recaptures King's truest preaching voice and, consequently, something of the real King himself. He shows how as the son, grandson, and great-grandson of preachers, King early on absorbed the poetic cadences, traditions, and power of the pulpit, more profoundly influenced by his fellow African-American preachers than by Gandhi and the classical philosophers. Lischer also reveals a later phase of King's development that few of his biographers or critics have addressed: the prophetic rage with which he condemned American religious and political hypocrisy. During the last three years of his life, Lischer shows, King accused his country of genocide, warned of long hot summers in the ghettos, and called for a radical redistribution of wealth. 25 years after its initial publication, The Preacher King remains a critical study that captures the crucial aspect of Martin Luther King Jr.'s identity. Human, complex, and passionate, King was the consummate American preacher who never quit trying to reshape the moral and political character of the nation.

Fruit-Gathering by Rabindranath Tagore Book Resume:

Fruit-Gathering - Rabindranath Tagore - Fruit-Gathering is a poem by Rabindranath Tagore, first published in 1916. Fruit Gathering is a book so rare in style and theme, yet not difficult to relate to as it is based on the relationship between God and man, the atom and the cosmos. Tagore was heavily influenced by the rich heritage of the Subcontinent and uses its fruit and flowers to symbolise the spiritual and moral values that underlie his own devotion and love for the creator. His simple poetic style finds the most evocative words and phrases, symbols and images, which have haunting music in them bringing out the deepest emotions of any reader. Fruit Gathering is the finest example of Tagores simple poetic style whose influence is still strong today with his words heard daily in the Indian and Bangladesh national anthems and studied in countless countries as they continue to capture hearts and minds. Rabrindinath Tagore (7th May, 1861 - 7th August, 1941) should need little introduction since this Renaissance Man excelled not only in poetry but novels, short stories, songs, dancedramas, and essays that spoke to generations around the world of universal themes both political and personal. He reshaped Bengali literature and was the first non European to win the Nobel Prize for literature in 1913. Fruit Gathering is a book so rare in style and theme, yet not difficult to relate to as it is based on the relationship between God and man, the atom and the cosmos. The Soul in Love by Deepak Chopra, M.D. Book Resume:

No love is more consuming and passionate than that one has for God. And nothing is more beautiful than that love when it is expressed as poetry. In The Soul in Love, Deepak Chopra presents us with five great writers whose lives span seven centuries: Rumi, the sublime Persian poet who sang out his verses in ecstatic longing for God. Mirabai, an Indian princess who walked away from her life of privilege to be closer to her Dark Lord. Kabir, born to a lowly family of weavers in India, only to rise to the heights of wisdom and song. Hafiz, an Islamic master who reveled in the joys of the flesh as a way to the soul. And Tagore, the celebrated modern Indian writer who first made the West aware of the richness of Eastern devotional poetry. Returning to the theme that inspired The Love Poems of Rumi and On the Shores of Eternity, Deepak Chopra gives us a rapturous experience of human passion, inspired by the soul’s yearning for the sacred source of love. "Immortal love doesn’t need poetry. However, it is our good fortune that some of the God-intoxicated have written words that permit access into their ecstatic world. Particularly in the East, in that exotically woven belt of lands that stretches from Arabia to the Indian subcontinent, poets and saints are never far apart. In this collection I have gathered a few of the most revered, beginning in the medieval period and extending to this century. The name of Rumi has gathered much luster recently, but the others — Kabir, Hafiz, Tagore, and Mirabai — deserve just as much recognition. In their own cultures they stand as beacons of inspiration, largely because the common people have taken them into their hearts and continue joyfully to sing their words to this very day." — From the Introduction

Report from Ground Zero by Dennis Smith Book Resume:

The tragic events of September 11, 2001, forever altered the American landscape, both figuratively and literally. Immediately after the jets struck the twin towers of the World Trade Center, Dennis Smith, a former firefighter, reported to Manhattan’s Ladder Co. 16 to volunteer in the rescue efforts. In the weeks that followed, Smith was present on the front lines, attending to the wounded, sifting through the wreckage, and mourning with New York’s devastated fire and police departments. This is Smith’s vivid account of the rescue efforts by the fire and police departments and emergency medical teams as they rushed to face a disaster that would claim thousands of lives. Smith takes readers inside the minds and lives of the rescuers at Ground Zero as he shares stories about these heroic individuals and the effect their loss had on their families and their companies. “It is,” says Smith, “the real and living history of the worst day in America since Pearl Harbor.” Written with drama and urgency, Report from Ground Zero honors the men and women who—in America’s darkest hours—redefined our understanding of courage.

Publisher: FriesenPress

File Format: Pdf

Beyond Normality by Sylvain Vidoni Book Resume:

Beyond Normality covers a broad range of subjects—everything from human behavior, to feminism and sex, to child rearing, to violence, to drugs and alcohol, to changes in society and the oppressions of modern life. From family orientation, to religion and mankind consciousness. Readers are asked to consider Beyond Normality as a “modern guide for complete internal harmony”. Numerous themes run throughout this work, the most persistent and prevalent is the belief on the growing disconnect between what is natural and what has come to be thought of as normal. There is, in the author’s view, a great deal that is wrong with modern society, and much of it stems from our insistence on shielding ourselves from the rigors of the natural order of things.

Confusion Matrix and Other Poems by David James Murray Book Resume:

David J. Murray's Confusion Matrix and Other Poems is a collection of poetry that weaves together many different components of life using the thread of our most unavoidable emotion-confusion. Language and content combine beautifully as Murray seamlessly blends concrete detail into abstraction. This mellifluous marriage of the tangible and the universal shows that confusion is an emotion as valuable to the human experience as fear or grief or even love. We move smoothly from one aspect of life to another, from one poem to the next, carried along by the familiar and inevitable undercurrent of confusion. The title work, "Confusion Matrix", takes us on a winding, existential path through the confusion created by man's examination of nature, love and life itself. This epic saga is followed by ten sets of poems, each with a specific theme, including art, music and even madness. Whether about a change in seasons or an unthinkable tragedy, Murray's extraordinary poems speak to the questions we all ask ourselves during the most quiet and thoughtful moments in life.

The Ministry of Healing by Ellen G. White Book Resume:

Heritage Edition: Over 200 hand drawn illustrations from a century ago. Unabridged, original text. This book helps us to see the natural laws of our bodies as the divine laws of a loving Creator. Practical counsel guides us in our day-to-day care of our physical being in ways that will greatly maintain physical health and in general provide us a longer, more productive, and enjoyable life span. The Ministry of Healing was first published in its present form in 1905. Its roots, however, began as far back as the 1860s with materials Ellen White wrote for publications such as Health Reformer, Good Health, Appeal to Mothers, How to Live, and Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene. This version is a full text rendition. Over 200 hand drawn illustrations from that era have been restored and add much to its attractiveness and study value. Christ spent more time healing and ministering to the physical needs of suffering humanity than he did to preaching. He related to people in the areas of their felt need and after gaining their attention and indebtedness he ministered to their spiritual needs, encouraging them to “go and sin no more.” He was indeed the pattern Medical Missionary. Through His example in ministry He calls not only health professionals but every admirer of His to “come and follow Me.” This book helps us to see the natural laws of our bodies as the divine laws of a loving Creator. Practical counsel guides us in our day-to-day care of our physical being in ways that will greatly maintain physical health and in general provide us a longer, more productive, and enjoyable life span. There is also much information on how to best minister to those who are suffering physically, mentally, and spiritually. There is good, practical advice on how to provide effective home health care which, in many instances, will diminish, the need for professional health care and fewer medications.

Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr., lived parallel lives. Their leadership helped millions of Americans recover from the assassination of John F. Kennedy and inspired hope for a more peaceful and egalitarian society (which endured well after their own tragic deaths five years later). Their rhetoric addressed the pervasive issues of the era—poverty, war and civil rights—and encouraged young people and the disadvantaged throughout the United States and the world. This book examines the vision they shared through their speeches, writings and public appearances in the years of the cultural groundshift of 1963 through 1968.

The Godly Man's Picture, Drawn with a Scripture Pencil, or, Some Characteristic Marks of a Man who is Going to Heaven. The soul being so precious, and salvation so glorious—it is the highest point of prudence to make preparations for the eternal world. It is beyond all dispute, that there is an inheritance in light; and it is most strenuously asserted in Holy Scripture that there must be a fitness and suitability for it (Col. 1:12). If anyone asks, "Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord?" the answer is, "He who has clean hands, and a pure heart" (Psalm 24:4). To describe such a person is the work of this ensuing treatise. Here you have the godly man's portrait, and see him portrayed in his full lineaments

One Week in America by Patrick Parr Book Resume:

One Week in America is a day-by-day narrative of the 1968 Notre Dame Sophomore Literary Festival and the national events that grabbed the spotlight. Dealing with the anti–Vietnam War movement, Lyndon B. Johnson's decision not to seek re-election, and the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., author Patrick Parr takes readers back to one chaotic week on the South Bend campus, when college students, talented authors, and presidential candidates grappled with major events, creating one of the most historic festivals of the twentieth century. The major players in this story are names that just about every household in the United States had heard of before. Those who weren't much into William F. Buckley Jr. may have enjoyed Norman Mailer. Voters frustrated with Lyndon B. Johnson had turned their attention to Robert Kennedy, Eugene McCarthy, or Martin Luther King Jr. The disaffected youth who believed it was all noise, madness, and lunacy, clung to novelists Joseph Heller and Kurt Vonnegut. And those who preferred steady, practical, understated voices read the works of Granville Hicks and Wright Morris. For those disconnected from America, Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man was there for empathy and inspiration. And yet, this luminary-filled literature festival started with a budget of $2.72. It was only through the thrilling efforts of festival chairman John E. Mroz and a hodge-podge group of Notre Dame sophomores that such an event took place. Thanks to them, sixties politics and literature converged amid the chaos of a changing nation.

Selfless Revolutionaries by Allan Aubrey Boesak Book Resume:

At this historic moment of global revolutions for social justice inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, the philosophy of Black Consciousness has reemerged and gripped the imagination of a new generation, and of the merciless exposure by COVD-19 of the devastating, long-existent fault lines in our societies. Frantz Fanon, James Baldwin, and Steve Biko have been rediscovered and reclaimed. In this powerful book Black liberation theologian and activist Allan Boesak explores the deep connections between Black Consciousness, Black theology, and the struggles against racism, domination, and imperial brutality across the world today. In a careful, meticulous, and sometimes surprising rereading of Steve Biko’s classic, I Write What I Like, Boesak reflects on the astounding relevance of Black Consciousness for the current academic debates on decolonization and coloniality, Africanity and imperialism, as well as for the struggles for freedom, justice, and human dignity in the streets. With passion, forthrightness, and inspiring eloquence Boesak brings his considerable political experience and deep theological insight to bear in his argument for a global ethic of solidarity and resistance in the ongoing struggles against empire. Beginning with Biko’s “Where do we go from here?,” progressing to Baldwin’s “the fire next time,” and ending with Martin Luther King Jr.’s “There is no stopping short of victory,” this is a sobering, hopeful, and inspiring book.

King’s Speech by Sunggu Yang Book Resume:

"In the quiet recesses of my heart," Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. often said, "I am fundamentally a clergyman, a Baptist preacher." No other statement could identify King better than this. Thus, the statement is the launching point for this work on preacher King's timeless messages on violence and reconciliation rooted in his theological foundation of the universal yet personal, loving God. Yang shows how King, based on that theological idea, vitalizes a pastoral and prophetic preaching voice, hoping to create reconciliation in the context of a violent reality. This concise piece is easily accessible, yet rich enough to see the continuing impact and applicability of preacher King's reconciliatory ideas in the present violent, torn-apart world that desperately awaits reconciliation.

Speaking of Freedom by George H.W. Bush Book Resume:

Through the lens of more than forty speeches from his presidency, George H. W. Bush takes a special look back on the momentous global events of 1989-1992 -- the fall of the Berlin Wall, the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the liberation of Kuwait, to name a few -- and reminisces about what it was like to be president through such unprecedented times. Choosing from among the hundreds of speeches he gave while in office, former president Bush selects those that meant the most to him and introduces each one with candid comments recalling the circumstances and events leading up to it. "Although now in hindsight it seems that the end results were almost preordained, at the time no one knew what would happen next. Nothing was 'inevitable' at all. We learned quickly that words mattered," he writes in the opening pages of Speaking of Freedom. Selections throughout the book bring back the fascinating times of Lech Walesa, Mikhail Gorbachev, Václav Havel, and even Saddam Hussein -- when we watched as the idea of freedom seemed to spread all over the world. It was a stunning time in world history, and in these speeches the forty-first president observes it from his perspective as commander in chief, diplomat, politician, navy pilot, and grandfather. While many of the speeches deal with foreign affairs, others cover freedom's spread within the United States, including the signing of the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act and the historic Clean Air Act of 1990. President Bush's voice comes across perhaps most clearly when he is calling young people to lead a life of meaning and adventure that results only from serving others. Showcasing President Bush's usual charm, self-deprecating wit, and sharp perception, these speeches mark the moments -- large and small -- that defined his presidency. Through his words that motivated people all around the world to become involved in ideas that were bigger than themselves, George H. W. Bush shows us what it means to be "speaking of freedom."

As outspoken in his day as Richard Dawkins or Christopher Hitchens are today, ROBERT GREEN INGERSOLL (1833-1899) was a notorious radical whose uncompromising views on religion and slavery (they were bad, in his opinion), women's suffrage (a good idea, he believed), and other contentious matters of his era made him a wildly popular orator and critic of American culture and public life. Legendary as a speaker-he memorized his speeches and could talk for hours without notes-and as a proponent of freethought, Ingersoll is an American original whose words still ring with truth and power today. His most important works are gathered in this 12-volume collected edition, first published posthumously in 1901. Volume XII features a series of miscellaneous works: [ essays on modern thinkers, the brain and the Bible, agnosticism, and more [ a variety of short dinner speeches and addresses [ "The Religion of Abraham Lincoln" [ thoughts on superstition, liberty, joy, and youth and age [ "The Lowest Phase of Religion" [ Ingersoll's letters [ and more Volume XII also includes the complete index for the full 12-volume set.

Stars Rain Sun Moon by Ralph Bland Book Resume:

There comes a moment in time when all things past must be put to rest. In Stars Rain Sun Moon that notion results in a cross-country road trip in a 1958 Buick Special in search of the lost chords of friendship. When Donovan Hart receives word at his home outside Savannah, Georgia, that his longtime friend, Morgan Palmer, is suffering from the effects of early-onset dementia, he knows he must go and see him before the inevitability of Alzheimer's Disease takes its final toll. Donovan contacts old pal Coop McCord in nearby Saint Simons to let him know of Morgan's condition and see if Coop will go with him to Morgan's home in Oklahoma City. The two take off on the journey traveling in Gladys, a 1958 Buick Special that Coop, Donovan, Morgan, and Ed Moore bought from two migrating hippies back in the summer of 1968, the year the four of them departed from their hometown of Tybee Island to go to school at a small college outside Macon.
